~ a lesson learned from Ch.11 of Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

An American Indian and a city businessman were walking down a busy street in a large city. Suddenly the Indian stopped.

“Listen! I hear a cricket. Over there.” He indicated a clump of bushes across the busy street and half a block away.

“How can you possibly hear a cricket that far away in all this noise?” asked the businessman skeptically viewing the swarms of pedestrians and traffic that surrounded them.

Without a word, the Indian dug into his pocket, drew out a few coins, and dropped them on the sidewalk. Instantly, scores of heads turned toward the sound, from quite a distance away in every direction.

It’s all about what we’re attuned to. Something like hearing your name spoken from across a crowded room. The person doesn’t even have to speak loudly for you to hear, because you are attuned to the sound of your own name.

When our oldest children were toddlers, Ian would whistle to get our attention. He had a different whistle for each of us, and even the babies learned to recognize their distinctive whistle. To this day, Ian can get my attention in a crowd, or draw me out of a reverie, by whistling the redwing blackbird call.

“How may one communicate with sources of knowledge which are not
available through the ORDINARY rate of vibration of thought? Are there
known sources of knowledge which are available only to genii, and if so,
what are these sources, and exactly how may they be reached?”

I believe the answer is yes. How else could the Indian hear a lone cricket in the midst of city chaos… or a twelve-month-old baby hear her daddy’s whistle he reserved especially for her, in a crowded mall?

All of us have the tremendous, intense sex energy Hill speaks of. We are all capable of putting forth a tremendous amount of energy when we are truly passionate about something. But is it always good and positive? Is that great burst of energy really getting you somewhere? Or is it simply very energetic wheel spinning? Are you working hard to get out of a rut? Or is it just more “getting ready to get ready to get ready”?

Hill says the emotion of sex is “an irresistible force, against which there can be no such opposition as an immovable body”. So If I find myself up against a brick wall, guess what? I got myself there and I don’t have to stay there! I can control my mind through the power of my will, by using the process of transmutation, and turn those negative thoughts around.

One more story…

Years ago I knew a young lady who was often asked to play a violin solo in front of several thousand people. I asked her if it made her nervous to play in front of all those people. Her answer puzzled me at the time, but it stuck with me. And I understand it now.

“Yes, I get VERY nervous. But I make it work in my favour by applying that extreme awareness to playing my violin, so I don’t even notice the audience till I’m finished.”

Hill says the salesman who knows how to take his mind off the subject of sex, and direct it in sales effort with as much enthusiasm and determination as he would apply to its original purpose, has acquired the art of sex transmutation, whether he knows it or not.

Isn’t that exactly what my young violinist friend was doing? And isn’t that what I can do with the things that I am afraid to do? The things that for whatever reason are holding me back from moving forward in my business?

My gratitude grows with each month that passes, that Michael and Linda Dlouhy started the mental cleanse and have kept it going all this time. I am so grateful as well to everyone who participates, because each little part is needed to make up the whole wonderful mastermind group.
