This is a picture of Nathaniel’s very first NaNoWriMo website badge. Unlike the regular program, where you must write 50,000 words, the Young Writers Program allows the participant to set his own goal. Nathaniel’s was 10,000 words, and tonight he reached his goal!

Here’s a picture of Nathaniel on another Wonderful Day in 2011… May 4, the day he went to Disneyland. It must have been a dazzlingly glorious day, because I scoured the pictures and could not find one without those sunglasses!

I did it!! I did it!! My PERSISTENCE paid off! I passed the 50,000 word mark at approximately 5:00 AM, after typing all night.

Am I crazy? Possibly. Would I do it again? You betcha! This is my 7th year to do NaNoWriMo, and my 7th consecutive win. It’s the highlight of my year!

Timothy and Nathaniel are doing well, and I’m positive they will reach their respective goals by midnight on November 30.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering… 50K is a drop in the bucket, and only the first draft. My novel is still a long ways from being done. But I’ve made a real dent in it. Continue reading »

I often hear my mentors say things like:

“Your WHY must make you cry!”
“Your real WHY is never money.”
“Your WHY is about who YOU really are.”

Your driving factor must be WAY more than money. But it took me a while to understand that. I thought the whole point of going into network marketing was so that I could make lots of money!

In this brief post, Randy Gage puts it all into perspective…

PERSISTENCE:
- refusal to give up, especially when faced with opposition or difficulty
- stubborn or enduring continuance, as in a chosen course or purpose
- resoluteness; tenacity

PERSISTENCE.

Sometimes it simply means applying the Slight Edge philosophy day after day, even when it gets boring.

Sometimes it means plodding through two feet of snow, endlessly, until you feel like you’re going to collapse. And then you take a deep breath and keep on going.

If you have commented on this blog in the past week or two and I haven’t responded, then this apology is for you.

After this week’s blog disaster, one of the plugins I’ve decided not to reinstall is the one that allowed for nested comments on my blog. I don’t know if it was the plugin, or my template, but it never did work very well when it came to my replying. I would be typing over top of type that showed up automatically when I clicked “Reply”, and was just generally a nuisance to use.

It’s too bad, because I really liked having my replies go with the correct comment. But unless someone can direct me to a similar plugin that works better, I guess I’m stuck. At least this way I’ll have to stay on top of the comments daily, rather than waiting so long to respond. Continue reading »

Henry Ford was considered obstinate because of his habit of reaching decisions quickly and changing them slowly. I am considered obstinate because of my habit of reaching decisions slowly! This is largely due to the fear that has dominated my life for much of my life. Fear is often hard to track down, because it has its roots in our childhood. Yet it can, in an indirect way, dominate every aspect of one’s adult life. Fear definitely affects my particular calling in life, and it is one area where I have been stuck for a long time.

Back in my high school days, I was told I would NEVER stop learning. That surprised me, because the emphasis had always been on getting that diploma, and going on to get a degree from college or university… at which point, it seemed, I would have “arrived”. Being blessed with an inquisitive brain and thriving curiosity, I soon discovered what they meant. But I was still thinking in terms of gathering knowledge.

Personal development was a foreign concept to me, other than attending Bible studies. I first heard of it in my early days of network marketing, in the 1980s. But it’s only recently that I understood the value and absolute necessity of a mastermind group of like-minded people, if I REALLY wanted to grow as a person.

Wednesday was a topsy-turvy day. We have ongoing problems with our router or something. Skype works very well, but nothing else is reliable. This makes it very challenging to do my online business, and my blog commenting and syndicating. I am continually taken back to our dial-up days, as page after page takes a full minute to load. IF it loads at all.

But yesterday afternoon took the cake, when my blog suddenly went wonky and ALL of my POSTS and PAGES disappeared!!! I had other things to do in the evening, and couldn’t do anything about the blog. I had to continually bring myself back to the present moment and the task at hand, until later in the evening when I was free.

WHAT was I to do???

GETTING RID OF THE AGENDA

I hear about all the time in Mentoring For Free. I’ve heard Michael Dlouhy say it. I’ve heard all of the leaders say it. I’ve heard my own mentor say it. And I’ve said it to myself plenty of times.

Get rid of the agenda!!

But what is an agenda? And how do you know if you have one? Most of us have one. Why should we get rid of it? And most important, HOW can you get rid of it?

November means one thing to the Flewelling family.

NaNoWriMo!!!

That strange word stands for “National Novel Writing Month”, during which each participant commits to a single goal: write a 50,000 word novel! This amazing international event takes place every November. For my family, this is our seventh year. Continue reading »
