Napoleon Hill says, “Man’s only limitation lies in his development and use of his imagination.”

I used to think I had no imagination, and I wondered what had happened to it. It was vividly alive when I was a child. How well I remember the days when the heads of timothy grass were caterpillars, snug in their tiny matchbox beds… dolls and stuffed animals were students sitting in rows in my little classroom… the low stone wall and the grass below it were a swimming pool… dolls were real families with a mother and a father and several small children. I also remember how painfully frustrating it was that I could not MAKE them come alive, and really BE what I wanted them to be. Continue reading »

Where would I like to be a couple of years from now? It’s not only fun to dream and imagine… it’s absolutely necessary, in order for it to become reality. This visualization is only a small picture of where I would like to be… and therefore where I AM.

The Perfect Day

I am wearing my new pink bathing suit, the smallest size I’ve worn in thirty years. I feel energetic and light on my feet. My heart is bursting with the wonder of life and love.

I am on a secluded stretch of beach on an island in the South Pacific. Behind me stands our newly built, two-storey summer home. I can’t see a single person or building from where I’m sitting… only my family and the beauty God created especially for our enjoyment. Continue reading »

CHAPTER 4 – AUTOSUGGESTION
The Medium for Influencing the Subconscious Mind

The 3rd Step Toward Riches

All my life I have been looking for The Key… that one thing that will open up a whole new range of possibilities and make my future less fraught with obstacles and struggles. Equally strong is the imagery of being in a bottleneck… If I could just get through this, and come out the other side, I could breathe again, and actually get somewhere.

I thought homeschooling was the key to my children’s future, ensuring them the very best education possible. Sure, they did well, but I spent 19 years barely keeping my head above water. Now my three youngest boys are doing very well in public school… and my sanity is now intact.

I thought network marketing was the key to our financial security. That IS true, but I was going about it the wrong way. Twenty-five years in and out of various MLM companies left me feeling like a failure. Yet I couldn’t leave it alone… the quest for the key drove me onward.

I tried numerous generic methods for building a network business online, and only ended up spending more money we could not afford. Nothing worked. Of course it had to be me. That many “successful people” couldn’t be wrong.

And then one day, when I opened a MySpace page, on the advice of my latest guru, I came across several excerpts from Success in 10 Steps. That was my introduction to Michael Dlouhy. And I knew I had found my key.

That was last May. At that time I would have thought I had come into Mentoring For Free at a fairly high level of personal development, because much work had been done in that area through EFT, kinesionics and other methods of handling the stresses that had been bombarding our family. And yet I have struggled majorly with my mental cleanse lessons each week. It is never easy, and often things don’t come together for me until after the afternoon call has started.

This is my third time through Think and Grow Rich… and I have found the key that will move me forward in Mentoring For Free and building my home business.

Hill calls this chapter the “keystone to the arch of this philosophy.” It is what holds the “Think and Grow Rich” philosophy together. Without it the entire structure comes tumbling down. And the key in this chapter… that one thing that opens up a whole new range of possibilities for me is…

I have ABSOLUTE CONTROL over the material which reaches my subconscious mind.

The garden of my subconscious mind has been overtaken by weeds. I see now that many desirable plants are there, but they are hidden… choked by obnoxious weeds. I have the power and the means for clearing the space around those tender plants, exposing them to the sunlight and nourishment without competition… and then going on to pull all the other weeds threatening them, and replace the weeds with many more good plants.

How will I do this?

By combining my Self-talk with the concept of the Power of Now. The Power of Now is already helping me to clear the space around the plants… and my Self-Talk will do the rest.

I will feed my subconscious mind by mixing my Self-Talk with all of the emotion and feeling that is now being used in less profitable ways.

I will VISUALIZE what I want from my home business, seeing myself in possession of it.

I will DEMAND that my subconscious hand over the plans I need to to achieve my goals.

I will EXPECT the answer to come, and will be on the lookout for it.

In other words, I will be ON THE ALERT, watching for that flash of inspiration. I will take it as a direct telegram from God, and will put it into action immediately.

CHAPTER 3 – FAITH: VISUALIZATION OF, AND BELIEF IN ATTAINMENT OF DESIRE

The 2nd Step Toward Riches

Thoughts become things. Desire is the starting point. Faith is the starting point. Which is which? That could be confusing, because each one sounds as if it all starts with that one. But I’m beginning to see that each one works on the one before.

Thoughts become things. That’s a given. But which thoughts? Of the gazillion that exist in my mind, which ones materialize?

“All thoughts which have been emotionalized and mixed with faith begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart.”

All I have to do is look around me and see what reflects my true subconscious desires, and what I honestly expect and believe will happen. The pattern of negativity and poverty has been there from the time I was a small child.

Where did the negativity begin? Was it after my father was admitted to the hospital for the umpteenth time, and ultimately died when I was seven? Was it when my cherished dream of moving to our new home on an acreage in the country fell through when he got sick? Somewhere along the line I accepted the message that I was clumsy, I was not pretty or smart, that I couldn’t remain on the honour roll in high school, that I could never please my mom, and who was I to think I would ever be a writer? I was just Willena, stepdaughter of the town garbageman who also happened to be an alcoholic.

No one ever said those things to me directly, but I was pretty good at interpreting things that way even though they were not true. I love my mom dearly, and we get along fairly well for the most part (easy when you live 2500 miles apart and don’t get to see one another very often).

But that was then. And this is now. I’m a big girl now… 56 years of age. I know the facts, and it’s high time I owned them.

“When faith is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and then transmits it to infinite intelligence, as in the case of prayer.”

Hill says that both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought. I see a lot of poverty. Now I know what to do about it.

“There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”
